Labradoodle

As the name suggests, this is a mix between a poodle and a Labrador retriever. They were originally bred to be hypoallergenic guide dogs, but now people have them as companions in their homes. Their coats differ from one another; however, they have the poodle’s hypoallergenic traits. An energetic and friendly dog, they are great around kids.

Bichon Frise

These are a small-sized dog with a fluffy coat, and if you’ve seen one, you know how adorable they can be. Their tightly curled hair traps allergens but also produces fewer allergens. They require regular grooming to maintain their hypoallergenic status. The American Kennel Club has them on its list.

Portuguese Water Dog

You may have seen President Obama with these dogs, and Portuguese Water Dogs are a great hypoallergenic breed that has a water-resistant coat, and they don’t shed much either. They are intelligent, energetic and they require regular exercise. If you’re an active family, they would make the perfect pet.

Poodle

These dogs usually come in various sizes: the standard versions, the miniature ones, and even smaller toy sizes, often called tea-cup puppies. Their hair doesn’t shed as much, making them one of the best choices for allergy sufferers. They’re also intelligent and don’t need much training.

Schnauzer

Schnauzers also come in small or miniature, standard, and giant sizes; they all have a wiry coat and a distinctive beard, and they seldom shed much hair. They are attentive and active, with a personality that makes them excellent watchdogs.

Maltese

As a small dog, the Maltese have long, silky hair because they don’t have an undercoat. This means minimal shedding, which is great for allergy sufferers. Known as some of the more affectionate and playful canines, they make excellent companions.

Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers have a fine, straight, and silky coat that sheds very little, making them a popular choice for allergy sufferers. They are known for their bold and confident nature, despite their small size.

Shih Tzu

Another dog that sheds their hair minimally is the Shih Tzu. Although they have a long, flowing coat, you will hardly find their hair lying anywhere. To keep this up, they do require regular grooming so that their hair doesn’t get tangled. They are friendly, loving dogs that can easily adapt to any environment.

Scottish Terrier

Scottish Terriers have a wiry outer coat and a soft undercoat, which minimizes shedding. They are independent, confident, and can be quite stubborn, but they are also loyal and protective of their families.

Italian Greyhound

There are many types of Greyhounds, but Italian Greyhounds are known to be hypoallergenic dogs mainly because of their short-haired coat, which is smooth and doesn’t shed as much. They’re an athletic breed that loves nature and is very affectionate, so a cuddle now and again can go a long way.
